3. Create an Action Plan

The school creates an action plan to develop the chosen theme.

What is an Action Plan?

The Action Plan is the core of your Eco-Schools project. It is derived directly from the results of the Audit and takes into consideration the recommendations and topics identified in the Audit. The Action Plan sets out the objectives you want to achieve and the corresponding actions and educational activities that will be undertaken throughout the project. The Action Plan must include two kinds of actions: those that target practical improvements of the school’s management and practices on the one hand and actions in the field of ESD on the other hand. As a result, the underlying actions, which are at the heart of the programme, are accompanied by initiatives that inform, educate and increase the level of awareness.

Who implements the Action Plan?

As the Action Plan concerns everyone, all stakeholders in the school should have a role to play in its implementation. The division of responsibilities helps to unify the school community around the Eco-Schools programme, increases the efficiency of the project leaders and maintains momentum. It is particularly important to make students responsible for actions, as this will give them a greater sense of ownership of the programme and motivation to take part in it.
